David Kantor is chair of the Loan Workouts and Creditors’ Remedies practice at Leonard, Street and Deinard. David focuses his practice in the areas of banking, lending and creditors’ remedies, with emphasis on regulatory compliance and consumer law. His clients span banks, savings associations, credit unions, title agencies, mortgage brokers and originators, and other financial institutions, as well as lenders and creditors. His representation involves a variety of matters, including documenting loan transactions and responding to regulatory enforcement actions by both state and federal regulators such as state attorneys general, state banking and commerce departments, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the Federal Deposit insurance Corporation (FDIC), the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), the Office of Thrift Supervision (OTS) and the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA).
David has successfully addressed matters related to the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA), Truth in Lending, deposit account operations, check fraud, the Uniform Commercial Code, secured transactions, the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), the Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA), the Gramm Leach Bliley Act (GLBA), the Electronic Fund Transfer Act (EFTA), ACH rules, the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA), the Bank Holding Company Act, bank charters, mortgage industry licensing and privacy issues.
A frequent presenter on lending and regulatory topics, David has been named a Super Lawyer® by his peers, as noted in Minnesota Law & Politics magazine, and has been named among The Best Lawyers in America in the area of banking law.
